Hello and welcome back! I hope you and your family had a great summer break! My name is Amy Steinbrunner, and I am thrilled to be the new school counselor at St. Paul. I’m looking forward to an exciting year filled with fun, learning, and overall growth.
First, I would like to tell you a little about myself. I went to St. Paul many years ago. It is wonderful to be back at the school that gave so much to me. I have nine years teaching experience. I taught at Boone County High School for one year, followed by seven years at St. Henry District High School where I was also the varsity girls basketball coach. Last year, I was a middle school teacher and counseled at St. Joseph Crescent Springs. I have three kids ages 7 (boy), 11 (girl), and 12 (girl) who attend St. Joe. They all play sports which keeps my husband and me very busy! I know many of you can relate.
I feel so fortunate to be able to bring my passion for working with kids to St. Paul. My goal while at St. Paul is to help all students succeed. The purpose of the school counseling program is to impart specific skills and learning opportunities in a proactive, preventative manner, and to ensure all students achieve. The students will learn to succeed through academic, career, and personal/social development experiences. This will be achieved through classroom guidance, small group instruction, and individual counseling. I will be visiting the classrooms for monthly classroom guidance lessons. These lessons will focus on social, emotional, and academic successes. They will be developmental and provide age appropriate skills. Through classroom guidance, I will be able to fulfill my goal in reaching all students.
In addition to my monthly guidance lessons, I will meet with students in groups and individually as needed. It should not be necessary for me to meet with a child every week for the entire year. If that is the case, I will refer your family to an outside therapist. Within the first two weeks of school, I will be visiting the classrooms to explain to the students what my role is and how to go about seeing me on an individual basis.
If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am at St. Paul to help make your son/daughter feel happy and safe. If your child isn’t feeling happy and safe, I am here for him/her! I look forward to getting to know you and your child better. I am so blessed to be part of such an already outstanding staff and supportive community. I appreciate you and all you do as parents/guardians.
